Dr. K. H. Sancheti
Our Founder…A living legend

The Sancheti Institute owes its very existence to one man's vision and tireless efforts to bring the benefits of modern orthopaedic techniques within reach of the common man. Dr. Kantilal H. Sancheti, who also has the distinction of being Pune's very first orthopaedic doctor, founded the Sancheti Institute in 1972. Under his leadership, the institute swiftly achieved the reputation as the leader in orthopaedic treatments in Maharashtra.

Dr. Sancheti's unwavering focus on research has kept the hospital on the rising curve of innovation leading to the development of products such as the Indus Knee and Indus hip- India's first indigenous implant which has helped arthritic patients achieve pain free mobility.

Dr.Sancheti has, over the years, organized over 500 health camps for handicapped children all over India. In appreciation of his work, the Government of India honoured him with the highest civilian awards; the Padmashree in 1991, and the Padma Bhushan in 2001.

Dr.Sancheti has always believed in the dissemination of knowledge for the greater good, as is evinced by his mentoring and training of over 300 ortho-surgeons. In addition to his medical prowess, Dr. Sancheti is also a highly acclaimed design consultant, with over 120 hospitals in India benefitting from his expertise in designing patient friendly hospitals.

His manifold contributions in the field of orthopaedics have won him several accolades including:

Having trained over 200 orthosurgeons and provided hospital consultancy to over 100 hospitals, Dr. K.H. Sancheti is also a highly skilled architect who has designed more than 100 hospitals. He is the pillar on which the foundations of this institution have been laid.

Dr. K. H. Sancheti, is a man of many firsts. He was Pune's very first orthopaedic doctor, the inventor of India's first indigenous knee implant- the Indus Knee and founder of Maharashtra's first orthopaedic dedicated speciality hospital.

Our Chairman...Traditional roots, progressive outlook

From an early age, Dr. Parag, as he is popularly known, exhibited a marked medical aptitude, standing first in Pune University in his MS Orthopaedics examinations, and winning a medal for his efforts. To further his specialization in orthopaedics, he trained abroad in the UK, US and Germany before returning to India, and starting his practice with the Sancheti Institute in 1993.

Dr. Parag's began his association with the Sancheti Institute with the post of lecturer, advancing to Associate Professor and thence to full Professorship. His academic accomplishments, in addition to several medical papers, include the textbook 'Arthritis and Joint Replacement'. He is a sought after speaker and guest lecturer the world over. He holds the post of visiting faculty to Dundee University, U.K, and has presented papers at international symposiums like; Asian Federation of Sports Medicine, Asia Pacific Arthoplasty Society ISAKOS and others such international forums.

In 2007, Dr. Parag completed the Ranawat Fellowship in Adult Knee Reconstruction from Lenox Hill Hospital, USA, effectively expanding the ambit of the institute's areas of expertise to include complex primary knee replacement surgery & also revision knee surgery.

Dr. Parag's medical duties have always run concurrent to his academic ones. He worked successively as administrator, assistant Medical Director and Medical Director at the Sancheti Institute.

On 14 Jan 2009, Dr. K. H Sancheti, in his own wisdom and vision handed over chairmanship of Sancheti Institute to Dr. Parag. The astuteness of that decision has manifested itself in the institute's continued growth as the undisputed leader in ortho-super specialties.

In recognition of his outstanding performance in the field of orthopaedics Dr Parag Sancheti was presented the Award for Excellence in 2006 by His Excellency Shri S M Krishna, Hon'ble Governor of Maharashtra.

His exemplary work has also won him the
2004 Dr. Manibhai Desai award rendered for service to the nation.
2006 Governor of Maharashtra Award for Contribution to Orthopedics.

Our Director Administration...Expertise behind the Scenes

Behind every successful organisation, stands a selfless, dedicated lady working tirelessly to ensure that the system runs smoothly. At Sancheti Institute that mantle of leadership rests on the capable shoulders of Mrs. Manisha Sanghavi.

Mrs. Manisha Sanghavi, MBA & Diploma in hospital management, MS (Psychotherapy and Counselling) took over as Director - Administration in June 2000. She is also the current president of the All Hospitals Associations in Pune.

Under her inspiring guidance, Sancheti Institute has grown into is a vast concourse of a myriad different systems and departments, employing more than 600 medical professionals and related staff, and treating over forty thousand patients and performing more than 6,000 surgeries a year.

She, along with Dr.K.H. Sancheti, has mentored the JRC – Joint Replacement Centre, a state-of-the-art facility devoted solely to joint replacement surgeries. Her dynamic leadership has taken SIOR to new heights and her vision will enable SIOR to make its presence felt nationally and internationally.
