Spine Update 2007 Symposium was condcuted at Sancheti Hospital on April 7, 2007. This symposium was jointly hosted by Sancheti Hospital, Poona Orthopaedic Society (POS) and J & J Depuy. This symposium coincided with the World Health Day.
Since the last decade Spine Surgery has been constantly evolving itself. Statistics have revealed that there has been increase in Spine related disorders in the last few years. The reasons are many such as sedentary lifestyles, improper postures, lack of exercises, increase in usage of two wheelers etc. Conservative or surgical management of such patients demanded constant improvement as earlier mobilization; minimum scarring and return to active quality life has become a norm in any remedial philosophy. Constant update in this situation has hence become quite mandatory.
This Symposium was hence a significant academic event which oriented upcoming as well as practicing spine surgeons in the latest techniques of spine surgeries. During the two day event a high quality blend of national and international faculty guided the attending surgeons on the recent techniques of Spine Surgery with a major thrust on the minimally invasive technique. Dr Hee Hwan Tak ( Singapore), Dr S Bhojraj (Mumbai) and Dr Ram Chaddha (Mumbai) are few names from the esteemed faculty for Spine Update 2007.
Hands on workshops on complicated surgical procedures were also conducted to acquaint the surgeons. A series of didactics lectures, debates, case discussions and video demonstrations were the main features of this symposium.
During the inauguration ceremony, Dr Rajesh Parasnis – Organizing Secretary, Spine Update 2007 stressed on the importance of a good Spine surgeon today especially considering the quantum of spine disorders happening on daily basis all across the country.
Dr A Jayaswal – President, Association of Spine Surgeons in India said that this event is unique and will go a long way in promoting spine surgery across India .
Dr K H Sancheti – Chairman, Sancheti Hospital mentioned that it is important that such academic events take place to upgrade information amongst the spine surgeons and also the upcoming surgeons, as they not only give knowledge regarding how the surgeries should be performed but also give lot of information regarding the new implants and devices being used. This all ultimately benefits the patient.
Dr Ashwin Parikh – President of POS and Dr Jagdish Talesara – Secretary, POS both gave their good wishes to the event and gave their assurance that POS is always ready to support such academic events.
