The spine comprises three major compo
nents, the spinal column, neural elements and the muscles and ligaments. This delicately balanced system supports and controls all the body's movements. Damage to any of its components can result in serious injury. The goal of the Spine Clinic is to care for any and all of the conditions which affect the spine, to do so in a multidisciplinary fashion, and to manage all patients from the simplest to the most complex. The centre conducts
both clinical and research programs, pioneering the use of innovative techniques for the treatment of spinal tumours,
spinal deformities, and spinal trauma. The Spine Clinic includes a CT scanner, and an MRI suite. Fulltime musculoskeletal radiologists staff the dedicated Imaging Centre. The spine team members, all of who have received special training abroad, are on call 24 x 7.
Invasive techniques including facet injection, root injection, myelography, epidural steroid injection, and discography are routinely performed here. The centre has conducted over 2,000 major surgeries in the past 3 years. The spine unit has successfully conducted procedures to correct a variety of spinal deformities such as scoliosis and kyphosis. Its phenomenal success rate has resulted in a number of regular referrals from overseas for the management of primary and revision surgeries for deformities.
All of the programs related to the Spine Centre are located in one building. This allows patients to be evaluated and managed in an all-inclusive environment. The personnel of the Spine Centre include physicians in Rehabilitation Medicine, Orthopaedic Spine Surgery, Neurosurgery, and Invasive Radiology.
