Department of Traumatology

Consisting of three units, the Department of Traumatology is headed by Dr. Arora, who is highly experienced in the treatment of complex trauma and reconstructive surgeries.

Emergency Medical Services :
Dr. Chetan Pradhan Treatment of emergency trauma demands swift, comprehensive care for a spectrum of injuries. The Sancheti Department of Emergency Medical Services (EMS), headed by Dr. Pradhan, functions as a round the clock team of doctors & surgeons specializing in almost every area of medical treatment. The team members have trained overseas and are familiar with the latest medical procedures and techniques in trauma. The team includes special ists in or thopaedic surgery, neurosurgery, plastic & micro vascular surgery, oromaxillofacial surgery and general surgery.

Complex Trauma and Calcaneum fractures :
Dr Chetan Pradhan specializes in treatment of calcaneum fractures and complex fractures. He has been trained specially for this in New Zealand. He has also completed the AO fellowship and is a faculty for AO courses. He has been certified by the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) as well as the prestigious 'Arbeitsgeminshaft fur Osteosynthesis Fragen' (AO) Germany. In addition, he holds fellowships in trauma surgery from Germany and the United Kingdom.

Pelviacebtabular Trauma :
Pelvicebtabular fractures are complex trauma injuries caused by high velocity trauma. Our Pelviacular Trauma Unit provides the expertise needed to treat these injuries. The service is headed by Dr. Atul Patil, who has undergone specialized training in Germany and USA for treatment of pelviacetabular fractures.

Ilizarov Surgery :
Ilizarov surgery is a procedure which induces skeletal stabilization through controlled repositioning of bone fragments. Bone formation can also be induced through this external fixation system. Dr. Chetan Puram has received training in this technique at Manzoni Hospital in Italy. This technique is very good for limb lengthening and also for management of infected non-union fracture.

Intensive Care Unit :
Sancheti Institute provide a a temperature controlled, bacteria free environment essential for speedy recovery of trauma patients. Experienced and qualified intensivists provide round the clock monitoring of the patient's condition and response to on-going treatment. The ICU has been designed and equipped to cater specifically to the needs of Orthopaedic Poly-trauma patients. It is furnished with specially designed beds that permit multiple settings, central oxygen supply, central suction unit, modern ventilators & monitoring equipment.

Training
The Sancheti Department of Emergency and Trauma is also actively involved in education and training. The centre has been recognized by the AO Foundation (Germany) and is an internationally recognized centre for training orthopaedic surgeons all over the world in basic and advanced techniques for surgery. The department holds conferences covering a range of supers pecialities including; basic fracture fixation course, advanced fracture fixation course and international trauma life support course. It also offers fellowships to trained surgeons all over India.

The Kamalnayan Bajaj Centre renders service to accident and trauma patients. Dr. Rajeev Arora, Head of Traumatology Named after the late Shri Kamalnayan Bajaj, the trauma centre comprises an EMS ambulance equipped with highly sophisticated life support systems and a team of qualified doctors. The centre offers comprehensive accident care infrastructure which includes Intensive Trauma Care Unit and an attendant trauma team. 105757- Pune's first 6 digit emergency number was granted to the Sancheti Institute to render immediate medical services to all accident victims
